2007 LOCAL IMAGE AWARD WINNERS

The annual awards competition recognizes outstanding public relations programs and tools produced in the Sarasota/Bradenton area.  Entries are judged by accredited public relations practitioners from outside the area.  Entries are scored on sound research, planning, implementation, how well specific objectives are met and budgeting.

Members of the Central West Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association were honored with Image Awards on Tuesday, April 17, 2007.

And the winners are...

Highest Level Image Awards:

• David Voss, of Voss and Associates for school superintendent Gary Norris’s written speech
• Susie Bowie for the Community Foundation of Sarasota’s Non-profit Resource Center e-newsletter
• Central West Coast chapter’s awards committee for its Chapter Awards Ceremony
• Central West Coast chapter’s 2005-2006 Board for its strategic plan

Awards of Distinction were presented to all entries that meet the standard of excellence set by a panel of judges:

• Stephanie Leno and Maura Howl-Bestor for Manatee Technical Institute’s NASCAR United Way campaign
• Peggy Palmer, James Docker and Susan Thomsom for the Senior Friendship Center’s institutional PR program “We’re About Family”
• Lynn Hobeck-Bates for The John and Mabel Ringling Museum’s five-year master plan public information program
• Julie Platt for the Suncoast Communities Blood Bank’s “Boots & Badges” special event
• Lucy Nicandri and Jessica Hays for the Thunder by the Bay event benefiting The Florida Center
• Ginya Carnahan, Stephen LeBlanc and Brian Lowe for the Dattoli Cancer Center’s four-color brochure

Special Judges’ Awards recognizes significant results from a small budget:

• Julie Platt for “Boots and Badges”
• Dee Zulauf, APR, of EnviZage, Jeanne Goble and Laura Trubac, ACEC, for the ACEC Course Catalog

The Grand Image top award was presented to:

• CWC-FPRA 2005-2006 Board for its strategic plan, chaired by chapter president Chrissy Kruger-Gruendyke and president-elect Tom Nunan.

2006-2007 Chapter Award Winners

More than 50 public relations professionals and area business representatives gathered on February 28, 2007 at the Historic Asolo Theater to honor recipients of annual awards presented by the Central West Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association Chapter recognizing excellence in the PR profession within in the CWC chapter. The 2006 award winners are:

• "PR Lifetime Achievement Award" – Tim Clarke, founder of Clarke Advertising and PR, the largest advertising and public relations firm in the Sarasota area and third largest in the Tampa Bay region. Clarke helped form and now serves on the board of Insignia Bank.
• "Member of the Year" – Jessica Moats, marketing director/content developer for GravityFree Web Design. Moats has served for the past two years as the chapter’s Website Chair; the chapter’s Website received the state association’s 2006 President’s Award for Best Chapter Website.
• "Rising Star" – Susie Bowie, program associate for communications at the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. Bowie serves as the chapter’s Newsletter Editor and updated the chapter’s newsletter to an electronic format.
• "Promoting the Profession" – Diane Andrews, Business Development Manager for the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County. Andrews has worked closely with the CWC chapter, engaging many of the organization’s leaders in the EDC Creative Cluster inititiative and in a cosponsored event planned for April 2007, “Generate Buzz for Your Business: PR and Technology Tactics that Work!”
• "Ginnie Duffey-Troyer Professionalism Award" – Martha Wells, vice president of communications for Mote Marine Laboratory. Wells, an expert in many areas of public relations, serves as a mentor to many area PR professionals.
